Hiking Ague Cove in Guam | Life in Guam

ague cove

Hey! Sorry I missed you last week. I was very sick and trying to get my life back together. Since that is out of the way...I recently went on my first hike. I went to Ague Cove and needless to say I absolutely loved it! It wasn't a long hike but it still had me out of breath!

Ague Cove

The hike is located in the village of Dededo. Not far from the Marine Base build up. I went with a small group and traveled down less than a mile through the jungle. It had previously rained so it was extremely slippery. I would definitely wear different shoes next time around. It was extremely difficult to keep my footing. There were ropes to help along the trail but better shoes would have been key. I however, did not fall once but I did "almost" fall about 579 times. I wouldn't encourage any beginner hikers to hike after it rains in areas where there is lots of mud. Better to be safe than sorry.

Once I made it nearly out of the jungle I saw the most amazing turquoise, blue water. Just breathtaking!

In the Cove

When I stepped out the jungle I walked down a bed of dried coral. There was so much of it, it just looked like rocks. I was so hot I walked out in the water in all of my clothes lol! I had thin exercise type clothes on with my swimsuit underneath so no biggie.

There were lots of fish big and small and other sea life. The cove doesn't have a soft sandy beach it is definitely rocky. I was glad my shoes were appropriate for the water. This is not a place to go barefoot.

We went at low tide so the water was pretty calm and not too high. Perfect for relaxing and just taking in the gorgeous view.

Heading back

The hike back was a bit difficult. One, it was extremely slippery but the incline had me winded. Although it's not a long hike, if you are not an experienced hiker like myself it may take you a bit of time to make it back. It  is not impossible by any means but constantly hiking up an incline takes a bit of work. I got my cardio in for that day.

Overall I loved Ague Cove! I would love to go again.

Thanks for hanging out today.

Ague Cove is a privately owned area of Guam that is hidden. I was later told that getting permission to hike the area is favorable. The land is owned by Mr. Jesus Pangelinan.

  1. What a beautiful place! How are these names pronounced? If I tell friends about your adventures, I want to say the names correctly. How long until you take K along on the hike? He’d love it, too.
