Humidity Proof Edges| Sleek Edge Control Styling Product

edges laid

I don’t go crazy with my baby hairs but I do like the look of sleek edges to finish a style. Since I live in a predominantly hot climate traditional edge controls don’t really work for my hair. I’ve tested out a few products and methods and I wanted to share with you what has worked for me.

My go to style when wearing my natural hair is either a puff or ponytail. If I want my hair to stay in place….and I mean like go nowhere all day and night…lol…seriously…I use Schwartzkopf’s Got 2b Ultra Glued (the black one). This stuff has crazy hold! When I apply it around the perimeter of my hair and give it some time to dry, my style is set.

Method for sleek edges

I use this gel in 2 ways when in comes to styling my natural hair. One way is to apply it to freshly washed and conditioned hair around the perimeter, smooth it out with a brush and tie my scarf around my hair until it dries. If there is any white areas from the gel I spray a little water or some oil.

The second way I use this gel is by layering it on top of Eco Style olive oil gel (the green one). After smoothing out my style I use a little on top to add a bit more hold. This method still gives a great hold but it is not as rock solid as the first method. I use a scarf to tie down my hair until it dries. With both methods you can apply the gel to wet or dry hair. When applying to dry hair you don’t really need to tie your hair down because it dries so quickly.

If you decide to leave this gel on your hair for more than a day I recommend you spray your hair with a light leave-in conditioner nightly. After spraying your hair, tie on a scarf,  and leave it on throughout the night.  This helps keep your hair conditioned while maintaining your style. If you don’t have a light leave-in conditioner add some conditioner into a spray bottle and dilute it with water. This works just as well.

Cons

This product is extremely sticky before it dries so much so I use it to attach wigs for protective styles. Until the product dries it is annoying. This is why I prefer to tie my hair down with a scarf. Another con is that it can leave a white cast in areas once it dries with a scarf. This is a super easy fix as I mentioned above. Just simply spray a little water on the area and lightly rub it away or use oil in the same manner. Lastly when using a scarf remove it from your hair slowly as it may stick. In areas that stick just lightly spray with water. (This does not disturb your style)

This gel has been a lifesaver for my hair. My styles last so much longer and I don’t have to worry about my hair changing throughout the day in hot weather. Traditional edge controls (although great in some climates) will melt and not keep the hair in place when it is hot.

If smoothing out your hair is not your thing…do what makes you feel the most beautiful. Hair styling is a very personal thing. We all have different textures that makes us unique and special.

Thanks for hanging out!
