Spring is officially upon us! I know…I know…some of you are still dealing with the last bit of lingering winter. When I lived in Pennsylvania I really enjoyed the beautiful snow that winter brings but I remember getting antsy wanting a bit of warmth. With the change of the season I’ve been into neutral eyeshadows with subtle pops of color. I figured I’d share some of my favorite ways to try this trend to make it wearable and fun.
Colorful mascara on the lower lashes
Colored mascara on the lower lash line is one of my favorite ways to rock a pop of color. This works with all eye shapes and ages.
I like to start with 1 or 2 neutral colors. Lay down your transition color first. This color should be close to your natural skin tone. Apply this shade with a fluffy blending brush. Keep blending until you have a nice gradient effect.
On top of the transition color add a deeper neutral color of your choice. To apply this color use a dense brush to pack on the color slightly under your crease. Once the shade is packed on the lid blend it out using a clean blending brush.
After your shadow is very well blended add lashes of choice or black mascara to the top lashes. On the bottom lashes add a colorful mascara. You can go as bold or subtle as you like. Since the color is in a small area it adds visual interest and really brightens the eyes.
Eyeliner color pop
In the same manner that colorful mascara adds visual interest so does eyeliner to the lower waterline. This is a good tip for mature eyes or eyes that don’t have prominent lashes on the lower lash line. For this trend follow the same steps above. Instead of using a brightly colored mascara use black or brown and apply your pop of color (eyeliner) to the waterline. In the same manner as above you can go as bold or subtle as you like.
When using either technique don’t forget to smoke out the lower lashline with a neutral color. To do this use a small pointed or flat brush. Apply the shade directly under the lower lashes and blend out. The lower you blend out the shadow the more dramatic the look will be.
Inner corner highlight
This last tip has been circulating throughout socials for quite some time but I like it enough to add it to this post. When finishing your eye look apply a vibrant color in the inner corner of your eyes. Add the color using a small pointed brush.
I like doing this with a matte look and applying a shimmer or metallic pop to the inner corner. A neat alternative is a matte look with a matte pop of color.
Try these out and let me know what you think. With makeup there are endless possibilities.
