CHIKE Company

CHIKE is based in Abilene, TX. They produce products in house, locally. The facility is cGMP certified, and FDA inspected. A neat thing that I read about the company name is thatChike means strength and power. Chike is translated from an African tribal language. The logo itself, when turned on its side, is a power button. Definitely some cool marketing there.

High Protein Coffee

I will start out by saying I’ve tried 2 of the 4 flavors that are offered. The company makes Original Iced Coffee, Mocha Iced Coffee, Vanilla Iced Coffee, and Peanut Butter Iced Coffee. I’ve tried Orignal and Mocha out of the 2 Mocha was my favorite. Here’s some helpful info then I’ll go into my thoughts.

Thoughts

As I stated above, I enjoy the Iced Mocha version the best out of the two I’ve tried. You can’t go wrong with either of them though. This is so delicious! Makes you feel like you are seriously drinking a coffee shop beverage. I can’t rave about the taste enough. After trying lots of protein powder I always notice an after taste. Happy Whey is the only other protein powder that doesn’t have that. This powder is very smooth, no after taste, and blends well in a shaker.

I’ve been drinking this protein coffee for about a month and I really enjoy it. I like to use it in the morning to kick off my day or before my workout. I’ve tried using 2 scoops but it made me a bit jittery. I can only do 2 scoops if I add more water. I also noticed the need to “gooo“. ***TMI ALERT*** I am pretty regular but drinking this definitely lead to more frequent trips to the bathroom. To be fair, that happens when I drink regular coffee as well. I don’t see this as a con because it didn’t lead to any stomach discomfort or a “food poison” type of situation. Hmmm…graphic enough ?! Ok…moving on!

As far as the ingredients list, those who are concerned about “natural flavors” may want to contact the company directly for a detailed list of what that is. Xanthan Gum is a commonly used thickening agent. Sodium Caseinate is the biochemical name for Casein. Casein is a type of protein found in milk. Sucralose is a form of artificial sweetener which is not broken down by the body. Sucralose is the very last ingredient on the list. I would personally be concerned if it was closer to the top. However, if you are sensitive to artificial sweeteners like Splenda or just prefer not to have them in your diet this product may not be for you.

Lastly, on the package, it states “no artificial colors or flavors” and “no added sugar” which is technically true but I would consider sucralose as a flavor and although there is no added sugar there is a sugar substitute. This may be a deal breaker for some so I thought it was worth mentioning.

Other than that the ingredients list is pretty straight forward. Overall I really like this product. I think it works perfectly for what I need. Protein, energy, coffee… deliciousness!

Thanks for hanging out today!
