ColourPop No Filter Foundation and Setting Powder Review | Tan Skin

colourpop foundation 1

ColourPop is one of my favorite brands. Ever since I purchased my first Super Shock Shadow I was hooked. The quality at such an affordable price is amazing. Since the release of their Super Shock Shadows they have expanded into liquid lipsticks, pressed shadows, palettes, brushes, concealers, brow products (my holy grail btw) the list goes on! I am here for it all lol! So naturally when they released a foundation after the success of their concealer I jumped on that! From the new collection I purchased one foundation and one loose setting powder to test out.

Let me tell you my thoughts.

Color Match

I purchased shade 145 Medium Dark, which seems to be a perfect match. A tad bit more yellow in the formula would have been great though. I used the Colourpop shade matching chart using Fenty Foundation in 330 as a matching guide. I was match with 145. The shade matching guide also matches your powder shade. I'm running out of my Sacha Buttercup powder so I decided to get shade Banana in the No Filter Setting Powder. This color was not on the color match list but I feel it works great for my rich yellow under-toned skin. It is also listed on the site that shade Banana is a brightening shade recommended for all skin tones.

For reference here is a list of some foundation shades I use:

In the photo above: Colourpop swatched across the top, Dior Undercover 041 Ochre, Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless 332 Golden Caramel, Lóréal Pro-Glow 209 Caramel Beige, Wet n Wild Photo Focus Caramel, Fenty Pro Filt'r 330, NARS Natural Radiant long wear Med/Dark 1 Syracuse, Lóréal True Match Caramel Beige W7, and NYX Total Control Golden.

Note: The swatches on my arm are all close matches to my skin once dried/set.

Formula and packaging

Foundation, shade medium 145

The No Filter Foundation is in a glass bottle with a pump! Yessss lort! I need a pump with every foundation that isn't in a squeeze tube. I don't want to pour out my product and have the extra go to waste. So having a pump is great. The pump locks so it is convenient for travel.

The bottle has cute white stars and a white pump. Very minimal and clean. The item comes in a pink box with stripes.

Setting powder, shade banana

The Colourpop No Filter Setting Powder comes in a clear solid plastic container. It has a metallic silver ring (painted) around it and a white lid. It does come with a sifter as most products like this does. The look of the packaging is nice but the silver ring on the clear portion of the container is already starting to rub off. That's not such a big deal to me but worth mentioning.

It is good though?!

Foundation

For the No Filter Foundation I found it to be very thin in consistency. Upon application it provided very sheer coverage with a natural matte finish. It was difficult to build it up to medium coverage….like really difficult. It accentuated my pores and problem areas 🙁  It does not completely set so you need to use a setting powder on top. It does transfer but the setting powder helps with that. I wasn't expecting it to be transfer proof because Colourpop did not claim it to be.

The first day I tried it I wore it for about 8 hours. The weather was pretty warm and humid. The coverage was so sheer and I tried to build it up to medium but the foundation would lift off my skin. I used the Colourpop priming spray and concealer and set my skin with the No Filter Banana powder. My under eye area looked great throughout the time I wore it but the rest of my skin looked pretty bad. The foundation did not last. I should mention that I used the recommended foundation brush (F17) for application and blended it out with a beauty sponge.

I had tried applying this product several different ways. I've used a beauty sponge, several brushes, and even my fingers. I just could not make it work. If I have to "try to make" something work then I know that product is not for me. There are just way too many other options on the market. This product unfortunately did not work for me. If your skin doesn't have much texture and you are looking for light coverage just to balance your complexion this may work for you.

Setting Powder

I used this powder under my eyes when I first tried out the foundation. Later, I tried it to set my whole face (when I tried the No Filter Foundation again). I also tried it on top of some other foundations in my collection. It went on smoothly and did not cake up throughout the day. This was a much better experience than the foundation thankfully! Overall I really like this powder and don't have any complaints.

No Filter VS Sacha Buttercup

I compared the No Filter Setting Powder to Sacha Buttercup Powder and they seem very similar. Formula is different but the first ingredient is Talc in both. As far as color they look pretty much the same on the skin with Colourpop's formula being a little bit brighter in yellow tone. Sacha Buttercup Powder is not as lightweight as the Colourpop powder.

Sacha Buttercup information for reference:

Ingredients

Talc, Mica, Aluminum Starch Octenylsuccinate, Zinc Stearate, Calcium Carbonate, Iron Oxides, Titanium Dioxide

Weight of 1 oz /28g  Priced around $20 depending where purchased. (on the brand site it looks like the weight of the products has changed to 1.25oz)

If I have anything additional to add that I notice while using either of these products I will update this post. Or as always if you have any questions concerning these products feel free to write a comment below.
