Lasting Curl Definition with ONLY 2 Products | My Wash and Go Routine 4a 3c

curl definition 4a 4b 3c

I like to keep things simple when it comes to my hair. Since I started my natural hair journey I’ve tried a lot of products. It’s hard not being a product junkie when you haven’t quite found a routine you want to stick with. Knowing how to properly care for my hair and all types of hair has been such a great experience throughout the years. I would like to show you how I define my 4a/3c curls.

My hair is mostly 4a with some areas of 3c and 4b. I do not like to use tons of products to get the look I want. I only use 2 products for my wash and go routine.

Curl definition steps

1. After I get out of the shower from washing and conditioning my hair I place a towel around my shoulders so I don’t get water everywhere.

2. I separate my hair into 4 large sections then clip them away with butterfly clamps. I start with one of the sections and divide that section into 4 or so smaller sections to make it easier to manage.

3. On the first small section I use my fingers to detangle, then I follow up with a wide tooth comb, then the Denman Brush.

4. The first product I use is the DevaCurl B’Leave-in. I smooth that through the first section making sure to concentrate on the ends. I follow up with Eco Styler Gel. This gel really helps hold the curl pattern. If you prefer less hold use less Eco Styler Gel.

I rake the product through with my fingers (using the shingling method).

5. Continue these steps until you finish all sections. Use the spray bottle if a section starts to get dry.

6. After that I add a little more Eco Styler on my edges and brush them into place. I don’t go crazy with designs and whatnot. I normally just smooth them into place with my fingers and set them into place by tying a scarf around my head. If I’m feeling fancy I’ll take a small brush and define them more.

7. Let your hair air dry or use the cool setting on your blow dryer to speed up the process. I always let my hair air dry. I like the look it gives.

All done

That’s it! I don’t do anything else to my hair after. I love this routine. It is super simple and has worked great to keep my curls poppin’! To preserve my style I wear a satin bonnet at night and lightly fluff my hair in the morning. Oh and yes…I have a DIY on how I make large satin bonnets that I will be posting next week. I have a video that will be posted as well to help make it easier to follow along.

I’m starting to wear my natural hair out a lot more lately. I honestly just missed it. Wigs are great but I love my natural hair. People sometimes have the misconception that if you wear wigs or extensions you don’t like your hair or have some other kind of issue. That’s simply not the cause for most people. I like both. However you decide to wear your hair, wear it proudly. We are perfect just the way we are but there’s nothing wrong with having fun with other styles.

I got you!

I’m always working on finding great hair products that are cost effective but deliver results. While DevaCurl products are great they are expensive when comparing how much product you get at the retail price point. I am working on a DIY  hair product that I will share with you once I perfect the recipe 🙂

I can tell you it is a good one!

Thanks for hanging out today!

XO Terreana
