Having strong natural nails has been a personal struggle of mine for a long time. I’ve worn artificial nails on and off for over 10 years. This alone has done horrible things to my natural nails. It’s pretty crazy to think about. I’ve used gel polish, powders, and many other methods. At the end of the day I just want healthy natural nails. For years I’ve dealt with brittle nails that chip easy. It is so annoying to have a wonderful manicure then the next thing you know you look down and see half your nail gone!

I purchased Quimica Alemana nail hardener with my own money. This is not sponsored. These are my honest unbiased opinions.
I’m fully aware that different factors in the body play a role in the health of your nails. For the sake of…well…just because “I want a quick fix”, I wanted to try a product that I’ve been hearing about for some time now. It is a Columbian Nail Harder by Quimica Alemana. I thought it would be fun to test it out and track the results on my blog with you. Nothing will change in my normal routine. I normally do my nails once a week depending on what method I choose to use. Lately, I’ve been doing a simple weekly manicure and applying cuticle oil when needed. The plan is to track my results every week for about a month. I really hope I get good results. Guess we will find out together!
Ingredients
The ingredients in the product are as follows: Ethyl Acetate, Nitrocellulose, Butyl Acetate, Hydrogenated Castor Oil, N-Butyl Alcohol, MEK, Amyl Acetate, Tosylamide/Formaldehyde Resin, Camphor, Formaldehyde
This polish is not by any means natural, nor does it claim to be. If you prefer clean nail products then this one is not for you.
Claims
Quimica Alemana claims the product is a excellent nail fortifier, forms a protective barrier, prevents chipping, peeling and splitting.
Tracking my natural nails
Here is a photo of my natural nails from day one. This photo was taken on March 10, 2018. I applied the hardener to clean, dry nails as directed. On the bottle it states to apply weekly.
Day 1 (3/10/18)
The product has a thick consistency when applying it to the nails. The polish has a strong smell but it does not last after it dries. The smell is not much stronger than typical nail polishes. It dries really fast and my nails instantly feel strengthened. This polish contains Nitrocellulose as the second ingredient so it makes sense for the nails to feel instantly stronger. Nitrocellulose in nail polish formulations acts as a film that adds in durability. Before applying the polish my nails were thin, brittle and super short. So we will put a pin in that and see what happens!
Day 7 (3/17/18)
I have had the polish on my nails for one week now! I did not mention this before but the comparison photos are of my left hand. During the week I painted my nails twice. I noticed some of the polish chipping towards day 5. So far my nails feel fine. I haven’t seen a huge change other than the instant strength that my nails have once the polish is on. My middle finger nail on my left hand chipped on day 5. This could be due to the fact that the polish had started to come off. My nails are still pretty thin and short so having one chipped nail is pretty normal for me. I chip nails often. This is the only polish I used during the week. My nails have grown normally, no big change there. As seen in the photos, my nails have not had any discoloration. There have not been any odd reactions to the polish either.
If this was the end of the test I would say this polish is good but nothing that stands out from other polishes I’ve used. Since we are still in this thing, let’s see how my nails look next week!
Day 14 (3/24/18)
Well…well…well….well…2 weeks! My nails feel healthy. I can’t really say that I have experienced that feeling in a long time. My hands are in water a lot. I noticed before using this polish my nails would feel crazy thin. (I do use gloves when I remember) I will say that I am starting to see a change at this point. My nails have not, however, stopped chipping. The amount of chipping has decreased. My nails went from a chip that would lead to my whole nail being done, to a minor chip that I can file down and still have a visible free edge. I’m really happy about my progress! Normally at 2 weeks regardless of what method I use on my nails, they would have grown out to decent length. By decent…I mean…at least I have a little nail grown past my finger tips lol. There is no big difference with that. I did shape my nails a bit so they are not as long.
No odd side effects noted. I would conclude that if you use this nail hardener for at least 2 weeks you will see a difference in the overall health of your nails. As far as growth I would not say that this polish “grows” your nails any faster at the two week mark.
Day 21 (3/31/18)
My nails are a little longer and still feel strong. They are still chipping but not too bad. My pinky nail chipped 🙁 I hope once my nails become stronger the issue will fade completely.
I painted my nails and got some polish on the side cuticle, once it dried, I felt pressure in those areas. It felt like my nail was ingrown in a sense. That was an odd experience but on the bottle it states to paint the polish towards the middle of the nail. I think because how the polish dries down it can push against the skin. That was something I definitely haven’t experienced before.
This polish really is no joke. I tested the polish as a base coat. The color polish glided over the hardener beautifully. I decided to have some color for Easter. I’ll let you know how the polish wears over the nail hardener next week.
Day 28 (4/7/18)
Well what’s the verdict?! I really do love this stuff! This last week I did not have any chipped nails….but I was being negligent (The Office Reference lol) when I was cooking and straight chopped off the tip of my nail. Lol! Who really does that?!
This polish works great as a base coat. I will be putting this in my normal routine. I noticed that as a base coat my nails feel even stronger. It gives a gel-like effect. If you are in the market for a new base coat give this one a try.
I will check back in a month or so to let you know if it is still working for me.
Final check in
I wanted to check in almost 2 months later (6/24/18) to give you guys my final thoughts. I am still really enjoying this nail hardener. As you can see from all of my photos my nails have grown tremendously. I don’t remember my nails being this strong…really ever. I noticed that my polish lasts longer as well. I highly recommend this product. It is a staple in my collection that I will continue buying and recently stocked up on lol! If you plan on giving this a try I would say keep using it consistently for best results. I used a whole bottle to get my nails where they are now. For some, it might not take as long but my nails were in pretty bad shape.

I’m so excited to watch this progress and results! The nails on my right hand have been chipping a lot lately, probably from work, but I would love to find a good, healthy reinforcement!!!
I’m excited too! It is a struggle. Fingers crossed this works 🙂
