Perfect Twist Out Routine on Type 4a 3c Natural Hair | Twist Out Tips

Twist Out

I’ve been experimenting with twist outs a lot more lately. I am a wash and go type of girl when I’m not rocking a protective style such as wigs, weaves, extensions, or braids. I’m not sure why really but I have been in the mood to be more creative with my own hair lol. Since I have been putting in the time to see what type of twist outs I like for my hair, I figured I’d share it with you.

LOC Method for Twist outs

Finding the perfect product combination can be overwhelming with the millions of products on the market. From what goes well together to what your hair likes…the list goes on!

So how do you choose?

I like to first start off by making sure the hair is thoroughly moisturized. Your locks will always perform the absolute best when you can retain moisture. After you wash your hair make sure it is well moisturized. I like to use creams and oils. So I use a variation of the LOC Method. Traditionally with the LOC Method you apply liquid, oil, and cream products on the hair.  I use water or a thin leave-in conditioner for my liquid (L) and instead of using oil I use a cream product. That cream product would serve as my (O). Most creams contain a bit of oil to them so adding an additional oil may not be necessary for your hair. I like to add oil on top of the cream to seal in all the products and to add extra shine. The oil serves as the (C) in the LOC method.

Key Twist Out tips

Less product and more water

Making sure your hair is wet is the best way to get definition for your twist out. When you hair is wet you don’t need to use as much product to keep that moisture in your hair. I suggest keeping a water bottle nearby and spray your section before applying your products. The hair doesn’t need to be drenched but I like the hair to be a little more than damp. This doesn’t increase the drying time because you are using less products.

Use perm rods on ends for different look

After you twist your hair, leaving at least a half an inch and applying a perm rod to the ends can give you a larger curl or smaller curl. This is also nice when you add different size rods in areas. By doing this you fake the look of a particular hair cut without the commitment.

Twist in the direction you want your style to fall

When twisting in the direction of the style, hair falls into place with less manipulation which helps the hairstyle last longer. The more you are manipulating your style the more your hair will start to loose the pattern it was set in from your twist out.

I hope these quick tips were helpful. I will be adding to the list as I try more styles. So look out for future posts 🙂
