Natasha Denona Tropic Palette Review | Swatches on Tan Skin

natasha denona tropic palette

The Tropic Palette has launched and I’m super excited about it! When I first saw the beautiful colors they called me! I just knew I had to order it. The colors look really beautiful together. I really enjoy having a palette that has wearable everyday shades as well as pops of color. You definitely get that with this one.

This palette is limited edition. The Tropic eyeshadow palette has 15 (0.05 oz/ 1.5 g) brand new shades. It contains Natasha Denona’s classic pressed pigment formulas. There are 10 mattes, 2 sparkling, 2 metallic and 1 duo chrome shade included. It is $129.00 for 0.75 oz of product. This weighs less than her previous 15 eyeshadow palettes with a total of 1.2 oz of product (pan size: 0.08 oz/2.5 g each) but Natasha has stated via Instagram that the change in ingredients is the cause of that. This is not a huge factor to me but maybe it is for some which is worth noting.

Packaging

I ordered the Tropic palette from Sephora online. It arrived in good condition and was packed very well. The palette was bubble wrapped and was in an additional box. The packaging on this palette is so unique compared to Natasha’s previous eyeshadow palettes. This one seems to be made out of  hard plastic material. It has a beautiful large mirror which I love. They are great for traveling. The mirror is basically the size of the palette! It also has small holes on the back of the palette which I think makes it easier for depotting. The eyeshadows are still in the palette pretty secure though. I noticed that the mirror and some of the shadows move around a bit but nothing has fallen out or effected the product in anyway.

Tropic palette concept

The colors in the palette are tropical pops of color. There are pastel and nude colors that are more wearable everyday. There are so many possibilities with this palette. As in previous palettes, Natasha intentionally designed this palette in a way that makes it easy to use. Every vertical row can be used to create a complete eye look. For the eyelids and the crease you can use the top and center rows. These are the pastel and nude shades. On the lower lash line you can use the pop of color shades that are on the bottom row. It is makeup at the end of the day so be creative and do what you want, but if you need inspiration it is already there laid out for you.

Formula review

This formula is really nice! The mattes are by far my favorite out of the Tropic palette. They are very pigmented and creamy as expected. The sparkling, duo chrome and metallic finishes are soft and delicate. In the photos above some shadows have indents because of the softness. Use a light hand when dipping your brush into the pans. I did have to use fix+ to apply the color to my lids. It was a bit difficult to get full opacity with some of the shades without it. Limoncello in particular was one of the shades with this issue. The shadows just performed better with a liquid. I don’t normally need a liquid for similar formulated shades by Natasha Denona.

This palette is paraben free and states on the package that it is not tested on animals. It does contain carmine so it is not vegan.

Pros and cons

Overall I really love this palette. It holds up to the quality of previous palettes for the most part. The colors are beautiful. You get a good mix of fun and wearable everyday colors. The packaging is my favorite from Natasha Denona. I can’t wait to see what future palette designs she has in store.

Even though the Tropic palette is great, $129 is an investment for a eyeshadow palette. The mirror and a few shadows move around a bit, although none have fallen out of the package. The mattes are the only formula in the palette that perform without a liquid mixing medium. I normally use liquid with metallic shadows but not typically with Natasha Denona formulas.

I would recommend this palette for anyone in the market looking to purchase high-end shadows or to makeup lovers and collectors who want to treat themselves. It is beautiful and unique. Worth the splurge.

Thanks for hanging out today!

XO Terreana
